CANDIDATE OF THE WEEK: JESPER TOUBØL

Meet this week’s board candidate, Jesper Toubøl, a senior industrial and technology leader with more than 20 years of executive experience from global manufacturing, engineering, and large-scale transformation at The LEGO Group - one of the world’s most respected consumer brands.

Jesper has operated at the highest levels of industrial leadership, with accountability for multi-site global organisations, capital-intensive transformation programs, and long-term operational strategy across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

WHAT STANDS OUT ABOUT THIS CANDIDATE? 

Jesper currently serves as Vice President, Engineering & Workplace – Head of R&D Packing & Packaging, where he leads LEGO’s global transition from foil-based to fiber-based packaging. This transformation spans seven production sites, includes development of new materials, processes, and equipment.

In parallel, he is accountable for the design and implementation of a completely new global packing setup at LEGO’s greenfield factory in Richmond, Virginia (go-live January 2027), while simultaneously driving productivity upgrades across existing brownfield

A further core responsibility is the establishment of a Data Intelligence Center for AI in packing, enabling data-driven decision-making, automation, and performance optimisation at scale.

Previously, Jesper held several Vice President roles across operations and engineering, including responsibility for the LEGO moulding production site in Denmark, comprising approximately 700 moulding machines, 650 employees, and an annual spend of DKK 750 million. Under his leadership, productivity increased by 5%, capacity by 19%, while unit costs remained flat despite significant sustainability-driven material cost increases.

As Vice President for Elements and Moulds Engineering, he led a global organisation of 550 employees across Denmark, Mexico, Hungary, Singapore, and China, delivering a full transformation of product design, manufacturing, and supplier development. Results included 15% cost reduction, 30% faster time-to-market, 10% quality improvement, and a 27% capacity increase, while advancing LEGO’s shift to sustainable and bio-based materials.

Earlier in his career, Jesper held senior leadership roles covering global customer logistics, value-chain optimisation, and product platforms, including responsibility for the DUPLO value chain, where he delivered significant savings and enabled revenue growth from 50% through design-for-manufacturing and portfolio optimisation.

Alongside his executive career, Jesper serves as Member of the Board of Engineer the Future, a national alliance of more than 50 companies and educational institutions focused on strengthening Denmark’s future engineering and technology talent pipeline.

He is also Chairman of the Board of FIXUM A/S, a sustainability-focused healthcare equipment start-up, where he supports product development, production setup, costing, and commercialisation, with an expected exit in 2025–26.

Earlier executive experience includes senior roles at KiMs (Orkla), Oracle, and Philips, providing exposure to FMCG, industrial manufacturing, and enterprise technology across different ownership and governance models.
